AmeriCorps in Missouri

Since 1994, more than 17,000 Missourians have served in AmeriCorps, providing over 24 million hours of service equal to over $616 million in service time to Missouri communities. AmeriCorps programs receive three year funding grants to recruit and supervise AmeriCorps Members who will serve up to a year in their community.

2024-2025 AmeriCorps Programs

The Eldon School District/AmeriCorps Eldon (formerly PAVE AmeriCorps) will have 26 AmeriCorps Members who will provide academic interventions for at-risk students to increase chance for success in school and will also support mentoring activities designed to increase academic engagement and/or healthy futures activities designedto increase physical activity in the district’s five campuses: Eldon South Elementary, Eldon Upper Elementary, Eldon Middle School, Eldon High School, and Mustang Academy. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for improved math and literacy proficiency for Kindergartners-8th graders. In addition, the AmeriCorps Members will leverage 130 volunteers, who will be engaged in academic support activities and activities designed to meet student and family needs. The AmeriCorps investment will be matched with $388,210 in other revenue; as a fixed amount grant we are not required to match.

Partnership for Youth, Inc., doing business as AmeriCorps St. Louis, will have 46 full-time AmeriCorps Members per year on its Emergency Response Team who will provide disaster services through mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery interventions across communities within Missouri and, when requested, across the country; provide environmental stewardship service interventions to local, state, and federal public lands in Missouri to benefit the conservation and ecological vitality of natural areas; and will obtain industry-level trainings and credentials to support future careers in emergency management and conservation with local, state, federal and nonprofit partners regionally and nationally. At the end of their first program year, AmeriCorps Member will be responsible for providing disaster assistance to 3,000 individuals; will enhance the environmental quality and user access of 13,000 acres of public lands, and 100% of Corps members will obtain industry-recognized credentials and 100% will obtain work-readiness skills.

The Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA) will have 31 AmeriCorps Members who will provide access to preventative mental health services in the form of therapeutic counseling, case management and community education in the Kansas City metro area. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for serving over 300 children and caregivers through trauma-focused counseling, case-management, and community education. In addition, the AmeriCorps Members will leverage 60 volunteers who will be engaged in community service projects that support CAPA program operations.

City Year Kansas City proposes to have 50 AmeriCorps members who will provide full-day education services to students in eight public schools in Kansas City, Missouri. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for mentoring 440 students, of which 92 will improve literacy skills, 68 will improve math skills, and 220 will develop social-emotional skills. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage 240 volunteers who will be engaged in projects in our schools and on national days of service.

The Emmanuel Family & Child Development Center will have 30 AmeriCorps members who will help promote school readiness by providing specialized educational support, trauma-informed counseling, occupational and speech therapy in central Kansas City, Missouri. At the end of this program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for serving over 200 children with classroom support, speech therapy and clinical counseling. In addition, AmeriCorps members will leverage at least 35 volunteers who will be engaged in supporting Emmanuel service projects. The AmeriCorps investment of $178,500 will be matched with $67,795; $47,785 in State/Local funding and $20,000 in private funding.

The Gateway to Hope will have five AmeriCorps members who will provide education and training, conduct outreach, and provide referrals and breast cancer screening navigation services to eligible low-income women in all counties of Missouri. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will serve 200 individuals, increasing the health knowledge of 140 individuals, leading to the completion of breast cancer screening appointments. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage 25 volunteers who will be engaged in program ambassador activities, such as community education, networking, and tabling.

The Healing Action Network, INC., (HAN) proposes to have 9 AmeriCorps Members who will provide access to preventative mental health services to survivors of commercial sexual exploitation in the St. Louis region through case management, opioid education and Naloxone distribution, therapeutic counseling and providing community education to individuals and organizations across Missouri. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for increasing knowledge regarding opioid education to program participants, assisting program recipients in achieving progress in at least one recovery goal, and increasing the knowledge/skill of community members and organizations across Missouri. In addition, the AmeriCorps Members will leverage 42 volunteers who will be engaged in community service projects. This program will focus on the AmeriCorps focus area(s) of Healthy Futures. The AmeriCorps investment of $99,960 will be matched with $42,959, $13,000 in public funding and $29,959 in private funding.

Jumpstart Missouri will have 165 AmeriCorps members who will deliver its evidence-based early education program in Kansas City and Columbia. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for increasing the school readiness of 413 children from under-resourced communities through a curriculum designed to improve key language, literacy, and social-emotional skills. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage an additional 175 volunteers who will be engaged in service projects that benefit preschool children and their families in the same communities.

The Kansas City Public Library proposes to have 13 AmeriCorps Members who will serve as Digital Corps members providing direct service for adult digital inclusion learners in Jackson County, Missouri. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for the following outcome: 60% of beneficiaries will self-report that they feel more knowledgeable and/or confident about digital resources measured using the Public Library Association’s Project Outcomes Survey. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage 30 volunteers who will be engaged in community outreach and Library services support.

The Educator Academy will have 23 AmeriCorps Members who will serve as classroom support and co-teachers in public school districts and public charter schools in the Kansas City, Missouri metropolitan area. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for increasing the academic outcomes for students in partnership with their co-teachers. In addition, the AmeriCorps Members will leverage 115 volunteers who will be engaged in member training and supporting classrooms where members are serving.

The Literacy Volunteers of America- Laclede Literacy Council proposes to have 17 AmeriCorps Members (10.4 MSY) who will provide tutoring services for economically disadvantaged adults and out-of-school youth aged 16 and over who need to increase their skills in literacy or math in order to increase their employability in Laclede, Camden, Pulaski and Dallas Counties in Missouri or serve at the elementary school in Lebanon Missouri serving 4th and 5th graders who are below grade level in reading or math. At the end of this program year the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for a minimum of 180 beneficiaries, 150 who will benefit from the tutoring by showing an increase in literacy or math skills in our adult program and 100 beneficiaries in our youth program, 80 of which will show increase in percentage score, on the I Ready exam. In addition, the AmeriCorps Members will leverage 65 volunteers who will be engaged in tutoring service.

Mission: St. Louis (M:STL) proposes to have 27 AmeriCorps Members who will serve in Beyond School by strengthening partnerships with student families and community partners and directly serving youth in partner schools: St. Louis Language Immersion School (SLLIS), Lafayette Preparatory Academy (LPA), and Kairos Academies (Kairos). At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for improving the academic performance of 160 K-8th graders in need of learning recovery. In addition, the AmeriCorps Members will leverage an additional 105 leveraged volunteers who will be engaged in academic mentoring services.

The Missouri College Advising Corps (MCAC) will have 45 AmeriCorps Members who will provide college and career readiness advisement services to underrepresented students in 45 partner high schools within 30 school districts across Missouri. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for meeting one-on-one with seniors to help them identify, apply to, and enroll in a “best fit” postsecondary option and, ultimately, increase postsecondary attainment rates among students in partner high schools. In addition, the AmeriCorps Members will leverage 225 volunteers who will be engaged in activities that help students explore diverse postsecondary options and plan their next steps beyond high school.

MSPD will have 10 AmeriCorps members connect at-risk clients to community resources that address the underlying factors leading to involvement with the criminal legal system in the counties of Buchannan, Jackson, Greene, Christian, Taney, Laclede, Camden, Morgan, Howell, Oregon, Shannon, Cole, Monteau, Miller, Boone, Callaway, Montgomery, Audrain, St. Charles, Warren, Washington, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, Madison, Iron, Reynolds, Wayne, Perry, Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Scott, Stoddard, Mississippi, and Dunklin Counties in Missouri. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for connecting assisted clients to 1000 total community resources. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage 50 volunteers who will engage in assisting MSPD’s holistic defense efforts.

Missouri State University

Missouri State University will have 23 AmeriCorps members who will address issues of food insecurity and food access by developing educational materials, conducting real-time needs assessments, conducting vision screenings, and assisting in the program’s coordination, expansion, and sustainability in Missouri State University campus and in Springfield, Missouri and surrounding communities. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for increased food access and food distribution. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage 300 volunteers who will be engaged in development and delivery of program services.

The Poplar Bluff R-I School District will have 36 AmeriCorps Members who will tutor during & after school in seven elementary, middle & junior high schools. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for 525 students starting the program & 383 students with improved academic performance. In addition, the AmeriCorps Members will leverage 68 volunteers who will be engaged in supporting Member activities in direct service, including tutoring, special program interventions, & enrichments.

The St Louis Black Repertory Company proposes to have Six (6) full-time AmeriCorps Members who will provide both in-school and out-of-school interactive learning intervention programs for students in grades K-12 to address the significant academic and non-academic risk factors that affect graduation rates in the St. Louis metro area schools by building critical non-cognitive skills and creating positive social-emotional interactions for students to prepare them for future school success. At the end of the first program year, AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for serving more than 4,500 at-risk students and their teachers in area schools and community centers to provide an evidence-based program that utilizes the power of the arts to provide supportive environments for students to improve social-emotional skills and create a positive trajectory to high school graduation and post-secondary attendance.

Teach For America Missouri will have 45 AmeriCorps Members who will teach for two years in low-income and under-resourced schools in Kansas City, Missouri. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for increasing the academic achievement of more than 2,100 students they teach. In addition, the AmeriCorps Members will leverage 180 volunteers who will be engaged in supporting students in classrooms and schools.

The University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) will recruit 14 AmeriCorps members to implement interventions improving 4 disaster phases: Mitigation, Preparation, Response, and Recovery for community dwelling older adults (CDOA) in three cities/counties in Missouri: Kansas City, Independence, and Clay County. At the end of the second program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for improvement in the healthy futures of community dwelling older adults in these cities. This program allows the older adult population the opportunity to improve health, feel safe if future disasters occur, and then age-in-place with the knowledge that they are in control in emergent situations.

The University of Missouri- Kansas City (UMKC) Lift As You Climb program will have 24 AmeriCorps Members who will serve to assist with increasing college-going and persistence for students at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, Missouri. At the end of the first program year, students will experience ease of transition into the culture of academia, as well as an increase in class enrollment, sense of belonging, and awareness and utilization of support services. Moreover, students will plan to implement the knowledge learned in success workshops, and campus and community partners will increase their knowledge about services available for underrepresented students at UMKC.

Waynesville R-VI School District

The Waynesville AmeriCorps Program will have 39 AmeriCorps members who will provide academic support through tutoring, mentoring, service-learning, and enrichment, with fitness and wellness support, to students of whom, are 73% military-affiliated, in the Waynesville, Saint Robert, and Fort Leonard Wood communities of Missouri. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for increasing the academic achievement of students by providing support through tutoring and mentoring programs in grades PreK-8. ACM will also be responsible for providing supplemental food assistance to reduce food insecurity for students in the Waynesville R-VI School District. The implementation of these programs will be done through the member and volunteer-supported tutoring services and mentoring programs offered both during the school day and within the after-school setting. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage 1000 volunteers including but not limited to veterans and military service members and their families, who will be engaged in educational enrichment through an established reading and mentoring programs, and support improved nutrition for students by minimizing food insecurities and promoting healthy futures through work with the Waynesville R-VI School District SIAP program.
